MoU signed between VSSC and Department of Physics, University of Kerala
March 2022





The University of Kerala and the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on joint research initiatives in the field of space science. Space Physics Laboratory Director Dr. K Rajeev and Kerala University Registrar Dr. K.S. Anil Kumar signed the MoU in the presence of VSSC Director Dr. Unnikrishnan Nair and Kerala University Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. P.P. Ajay Kumar. In addition to joint research ventures in the fields of Atmospheric Science, Space Science and Planetary Science, training in Data Analysis and Modeling is also part of the MoU. In the event held at VSSC Headquarters , VSSC Associate Director Narayanan Namboodiripad, Group Director Harish CS, Deputy Director Vinod Kumar, Dr. Suresh Babu, Dr.K.G. Gopachandran (Syndicate Member) and Dr. Sibi K S (Head of Department of Physics, University of Kerala) were also present.

Subodh G., assistant professor of the Department Physics at Kerala University, and research scholar Vidhya Lalan have developed fifth-generation (5G) microwave absorbers that could serve as an effective shield against such radiation.

“The problems posed by EMI demanded immediate attention in this era of 5G technology and Internet of Things (IoT) when it has become difficult to undertake routine chores without the help of electronic devices and internet that work around electromagnetic waves. The need for EMI shielding materials, especially those suitable for high frequently applications, has never been as crucial as present,” Dr. Subodh says.
